  3. Have your parent or guardian sign the permission slip

Departure Details

Unlike most outings -- where we meet at Greystone and leave as a troop -- everyone will meet at Umstead Park at 5pm on Friday, 14 March, 2008. Similarly, everyone should arrange to be picked up from Umstead Park around 12:30pm on Sunday, 16 March, 2008.

Each Scout should plan to arrive at the campsite. Mr. Fleming will contact all parents with the campsite number, once secured. This call should arrive between 3pm - 4pm. As needed, we will post a Scout at the Visitor Center to provide directions to our campsite for those not receiving the broadcast.

If you have never been to Umstead Park, the campground at which we'll be staying is located off of US 70. See the park details for directions.

Packing

Because this is a prepatory hike, proper backpacking skills will be demonstrated. Scouts should bring their gear unassembled in a duffle bag and their empty backpack so that they may pack it after the demonstration. You should bring all your usual backpacking gear. Check the library for more helpful planning information!

Meals

Your patrol will purchase all food, however, your Saturday breakfast will be a backpacking breakfast -- quick and easy to cook, eat, and clean-up -- and your Saturday lunch will be packed with you on the hike.
