Details

This is a prepatory hike for the Applachian Trail using the Uwharrie and Dutchman's Creek Trails in the Uwharrie National Forest. Conditions will be similar to the AT in terms of camping style, water availability, pack weight restrictions, and so on.

Arrive Friday with your pack ready for a 3-day backpacking trip. You should work with your buddy (or buddies) before arriving to separate tents and pack them properly.

Food and Water

You will need to pack a personal meal plan for 6 meals: Friday lunch & dinner, Saturday all meals, and Sunday breakfast. Friday breakfast and Sunday lunch will be On-The-Road (OTR).

Water is available along the trail, but owing to our ongoing drought, you should bring 20% to 30% more water than usual. However, do not exceed your pack weight limit, as the extra weight will escalate fatigue and water consumption. Also bring a light-weight water purification system (mechanical, chemical, etc.) to claim water along the trail.

Hike Groups

We will hike and camp together, as a unit, for the entire trail duration. Experienced hikers should be prepared to assist newer hikers along the trail.
